Diversity, Equity and Belonging Art Competition for Marshall University 2021
This art competition for Marshall University was to help explore cultural identity and other themes that promoted diversity and inclusion. For my submission and I decided to make digital illustrations of seven African Americans from West Virginia. I want to open the viewers mind when they see my work because opening the mind up to new ideas and pieces of history brings more of an understanding of people and cultures.I created these pieces because I want to connect and reveal to people the unknown past while focusing on scholarly research and accuracy. I was not taught about African Americans from West Virginia and I think it’s key that we recognize the accomplishments of voices that have been suppressed throughout history.
These are the seven posters represented and that are hung at East Hall in Marshall University.
I installed these in the main hallway of East Hall
I went with this style of framing because I wanted them to respect and honor the people illustrated rather than having just the prints of them.
